LOS ANGELES, CA  --  According to the 6th annual survey of the impact of the Internet by the USC-Annenberg School Center for the Digital Future, Internet users see their online communities as real and important as their offline communities.

The project surveys more than 2,000 individuals across the US by contacting the same households to inquire about how they use and interact with the Internet.

Among the many conclusions, the survey found a link between online and offline activity.  At least 20% of users take actions offline that are directly related to their online community.
